It Happened.

Fulfilling my fears, as stated in my last post, this afternoon "it" happened... We had an unwanted visitor appear in our backyard. Three years in this house and we've never had a visit like this. Lucky for us, we have two "hunting dogs" who made the discovery and kept our "visitor" tightly wound up in a ball...Until the "snake slayer", aka, Mike, was able to make it home and take "care" of it.
Now the big question is... What kind of snake was it? Doesn't look like a happy little garden snake to me. It was thick and at one point we could hear it hissing at the dogs and could see it poking its head up and threatening the dogs as well. I still get the creeps when I look at the pictures. I am petrified of snakes, I didn't even leave the back porch during the entire snake fiasco. I called my good friend Staci, who was brave enough to come over and help until Mike came home. She's the one who took the picture of the snake in the yard. She's a much braver women than I. We were both grateful our visitor made its appearance half an hour before Mike came home, I'm not sure what we would have done had the snake come out earlier in the day.
This is one visitor that will never come back.

Yikes!!! I hate snakes. Yikes, Yikes, and Yikes. Good thing Mike came home and battled that thing!! One time Dusty was at work and I saw a black widow spider in the garage and I had to go and wake the neighbor up at 10pm to kill the thing.

When I was in junior high, my mom found a copperhead snake in our kitchen! She used a broom to sweep it outside then a long handled hoe to kill it before we came home from school. By the time we got there she had gotten so mad at it that she had chopped it into unrecognizable pieces! Maybe growing up on a farm make you tough, but I don't know if I could have done it. If I thought my family was in danger....maybe.

I don't think it looks like the poisonous ones we get around here. It's not a copperhead - too big. But I'm glad you got through the whole episode untouched. Next time call me, I like snakes.

Yay I think I found it! It sounds like a bull snake - aka gopher snake. You had a small one - it must have been a baby. They are known for their hiss and are not poisonous! Here is the link http://www.manbir-online.com/htm2/snake.9.htm
Okay, I really do like snakes, I'm done now. Sorry. LOL

OK sorry to hear about your snake, but seriously, I have no need to actually see it. I almost hurled. SICK! You should put a warning. =)

I am worse with big spiders than snakes, I don't care much for anything that's creepy crawly. Brenen found a snake skin outside that looks about that size. He found the skin but no snake. Gotta love Texas!!

After some investigation of our own, we're pretty sure the snack was a "cotton-mouth". Yikes! I haven't been in the backyward since! Thank goodness for the dogs. :)
